The Story

Born and raised in New York City, Leonard Hilton McGurr began his career as a writer in the 1970s under the pseudonym Futura 2000; Considered one of the absolute pioneers of style-writing, his work later extended to fine art and commercial collaborations with brands such as Nike, Supreme, Undercover, Bathing Ape, Stüssy, Supreme and Virgil Abloh. After refining his style on the wagons, he shortened his nickname to 'Futura', and became one of the very first street-artists exhibited in contemporary galleries in the early '80s, along with Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Kenny Scharf, until the '90s, when the commercialization of street culture led him to collaborate with the biggest streetwear names. This volume is the most complete monograph around... a journey into the details of over forty years of activity, through interviews, unpublished images and photographs taken from the personal archive of the Brooklyn artist. An indispensable chapter in the history of contemporary art, fashion and Urban Culture. Size: 30 x 23,5 cm
